• Avoid taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen, Advil®, Motrin®, Nuprin®, Aleve®, Celebrex®, Fish oil, Ginko Biloba, St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E for 7-10 days before the procedure, as these may cause increase risk of bleeding and bruising at the treated site(s). Regular multi-vitamin and Tylenol® are permitted (If not contraindicated).

  • Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24 hours before the procedure as this can increase the risk for bleeding and bruising at the treated site(s).

  • Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or using hair removal creams in the area(s) to be treated.

  • Take Tylenol® (if not contraindicated) 1 hour before your appointment to help with any discomfort you may have if you have concerns about discomfort.

  • If you have any history of Herpes Simplex (cold sores) on your face, inform the doctor one week before your appointment; this will allow adequate time to prescribe a medication to prevent an outbreak.

  • Sunburn skin is difficult to treat, so avoid exposure to the sun.

  • Eat a small meal or a snack before your appointment.

  • Always inform your doctor of all medications and your medical history, including supplements you may be taking.

  • This treatment is not recommended if you have an important event within 2 weeks of injection due to the potential for bruising.


  • For the first 5-6 hours following Botox/Dysport/Xeomin, remain upright and periodically perform facial movements in the areas of injections to work the neurotoxins into the muscle - e.g., smile, squint, etc.

  • Do not participate in activities that include heavy lifting, vigorous exercise, or straining for 4-6 hours (it takes approximately 4-6 hours for neurotoxins to bind to the nerve, and you do not want to increase circulation during that time).

  • Do not rub, touch, or manipulate neurotoxins for 6 hours.

  • Avoid irritating products for 24 hours following Botox/Dysport/Xeomin.

  • If your upper lip is treated, you will not be able to drink through a straw, whistle, or enunciate some words for approximately 2 weeks.

  • Bruising in the area injected is normal and often expected. Bruising can last up to several weeks. Using/taking Arnica may help diminish bruising.

  • It may take up to 12 days for Botox/Dysport/Xeomin to take full effect.

  • A follow-up visit at 10 - 14 days is suggested to assess results for subsequent treatments, particularly if you are a first-time client. You may need to purchase additional Botox/Dysport/Xeomin units if full correction is not achieved.

  • Re-treatment is typically needed between 2-4 months.

  • Although rare, infection in the injected area is possible. Should you develop an infection, antibiotics may be necessary. Please contact us should you have any concerns.
